Letsoalo Explains Why Things Weren’t Clicking

AmaZulu striker Victor Letsoalo says he has been puzzled like everyone on why things were not clicking for him in the first half of the season.

Letsoalo, who was the go-to-guy for Royal AM in their first season in the 2021/22 when they finished third and was the runners-up for the PSL golden shoe in the same season, joined Usuthu from Sekhukhune United in a swap deal, with Rally Bwalya heading in the opposite direction.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic striker scored his first goal this season, a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United last month.

He followed that up by netting the second against his former club Sekhukhune in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 also last month, taking advantage of sloppy Renaldo Leaner before slotting the ball into the empty net.

This past weekend as Usuthu finally won their first league game in 2024 and first win outside KwaZulu-Natal, Letsoalo had shirt pulled down when he was clean through, and Keano Cupido was flashed with a red card, before Junior Dion bundled home the winner for Pablo Franco Martin’s side to get over the line.

“I think it was just a matter of time. Honestly, I didn’t expect to start slow,” said Letsoalo when asked by Sportwire on his slow start with Usuthu.

“But you know I just had to accept whatever happened to prepare to be where I am today to see how best I can do for the club as a forward player, because other strikers have been playing well.

“It was just a matter of time to show up. So, I will try to do my best to get the goals as much as possible.”

Usuthu and Letsoalo will hope to build on from the City’s win when they host Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup quarter final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, a repeat of the MTN final in the 2022 at the same venue.

Letsoalo has bad memories against Pirates in the Ke Yona Cup final last year. Thembinkosi Lorch intentionally kicked the ball towards him while lying on the floor and it was rewarded as a penalty which Thapelo Xoki converted, and Sekhukhune lost at Loftus Stadium.
