Motsepe To Stand For Second Term As CAF President

South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe has confirmed that he will seek a second term as the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The election is scheduled for March 2025.

Motsepe was first elected unopposed in March 2021. Since then, he has overseen significant financial reforms within CAF. His leadership has garnered support from numerous member associations across the continent, prompting them to encourage his re-election.

“Following requests from numerous CAF Member Association Presidents, Zonal Union Presidents and key stakeholders, the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe has finally agreed to stand as a candidate at the CAF Presidential Elections scheduled for March 2025,” CAF stated in a press release.

Upon his initial election in 2021, Motsepe emphasized the importance of collective effort and exceptional talent to drive the growth of African football. He stated, “Africa needs collective wisdom, but also the exceptional talent and work of every (national football association) president and every member nation.”

As CAF President, Motsepe also serves as a FIFA Vice President. FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his support for Motsepe’s leadership, highlighting the importance of a strong and united Africa.

Recently, during the 46th Ordinary Assembly of CAF in Ethiopia, Motsepe announced a 100% increase in annual financial support for member associations, raising it to US$400,000 per year. This significant boost aims to support the development of football across the continent.
