Nabi Wanted At Home In Tunisia

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is reportedly a wanted man in his native Tunisia, according to reports from the North African country.
While Tunisia was initially linked with former Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz earlier this month, they now appear to have shifted their focus. They are reportedly interested in bringing Nabi back home, with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco just months away, starting in December.
However, securing Nabi’s release from Chiefs will be challenging, as he signed a three-year contract with the club during the off-season. This means Tunisia, the 2004 AFCON champions, would need to negotiate a settlement with Chiefs to release him from his contract.
Nabi might be tempted by a return home, as he still struggles with English, the prevalent language in South Africa. He has been assisted by his staff, including Cedric Kaze from Tanzania and Khalil Ben Youssef, who is from Tunisia.
Tunisia, who were grouped with Bafana Bafana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals held in Ivory Coast in 2024, have been drawn into a tough Group C for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, alongside Nigeria, Uganda, and Tanzania.
It remains to be seen whether Tunisia will make a formal approach to Chiefs for Nabi’s services to lead the national team in the tournament.
In the meantime, Nabi is fully focused on the biggest game in South African club football – the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates at the sold-out FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Nabi’s side enters this match sitting fifth in the Betway Premiership table with 21 points from 14 matches, six points behind second-placed Pirates, who have three games in hand.
