Ngcobo To Departs Chiefs For Sekhukhune
Defender Njabulo Ngcobo will depart Kaizer Chiefs as his contract expires at the end of June.
Ngcobo’s future at the club had been uncertain since January when he was placed on the transfer list.
According to reliable sources, Ngcobo has signed a three-year deal with Sekhukhune United. This move strengthens Sekhukhune’s defense as they prepare to lose Edwin Gyimah, whose contract also expires this month.
Sekhukhune, currently coachless, qualified for the CAF Confederations Cup by finishing fourth in the DStv Premiership. Orlando Pirates’ guaranteed spot in the CAF Champions League and Mamelodi Sundowns’ league title win opened the door for Sekhukhune, as the Nedbank Cup finalists (either Pirates or Sundowns) wouldn’t participate in the Confederations Cup regardless of the winner.
Ngcobo joined Chiefs in 2021 from Moroka Swallows after a successful season where he was named PSL Defender of the Season. However, his three years with Amakhosi were frustrating. A notable incident involved him refusing to shake hands with former coach Arthur Zwane after a poor performance in his first term.
Despite some positive showings last season, Ngcobo wasn’t a regular starter, featuring in only 14 matches across all competitions. Chiefs’ disappointing 12th-place finish, their worst ever in the PSL era, prompted a clear need for changes, including personnel decisions.
Ngcobo, a former AmaZulu player, will leave Chiefs with 47 appearances and one goal in all competitions.
