Riveiro Blasts His Players For Failing To Kill AmaZulu

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro expressed disappointment that his team failed to capitalize on their numerous chances against AmaZulu, despite securing a 2-1 victory at Orlando Stadium.
The win propelled Pirates to the top of the Betway Premiership table with 15 points from five matches. However, Mamelodi Sundowns could reclaim the top spot if they defeat Polokwane City on Sunday.
Mohau Nkota scored a brace for Pirates, but Riveiro was not satisfied with the team’s performance in the second half. He criticized their defensive lapses that allowed AmaZulu to threaten a comeback.
“It was well-played in most of the moments of the game inside the 90 minutes,” said Riveiro after the game on SuperSport TV.
“It was difficult at the beginning until we managed to unlock the defensive plan and from the goal everything was much easier for us to play.
“I was not happy with us not capitalizing all the opportunities that we created in the second half, and we should have put this game to bed nice and early at the beginning of the second half.”
Riveiro emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and aggression throughout the game, especially in the final stages. He acknowledged the physical demands of playing frequent matches but expressed satisfaction with the three points. “You see what is happening in football because we didn’t defend well and we allowed them to run in a game that we were leading 2-0 and that cannot happen,” he said.
“A little bit of uncertainty in the last four minutes but it’s football. We had to play until the last whistle, and we were not in a situation to feel entitled to finalize the actions and a little bit more aggression in the last 20 minutes.
“Nevertheless, I think it was a good performance because it is not easy to play football every two or three days, looking at the way the boys are doing it.
“So, we are happy with three points and the performance.”
Pirates will face another tough test when they visit TS Galaxy on Tuesday.
