Seema Focused On Improvement, Not Second Place

Despite remaining in fourth place on the DStv Premiership table after a 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, Sekhukhune United coach Lehlohonolo Seema insists his team isn’t aiming for second place.
This loss was Babina Noko’s first league defeat of 2024, a year that has seen them flourish under Seema’s leadership. He even earned Coach of the Month honors alongside captain Linda Mntambo in April.
However, during a post-match press conference, Seema downplayed any talk of a top-two finish. “We’re taking it one game at a time,” he affirmed. “We’re not even looking there [at second place].”
Seema used the Sundowns defeat as an example for his cautious approach. “The loss of today put us into trouble, that is why people think I’m bluffing when I say we are not even looking into second spot because there are still five games to play and some teams have got seven,”
Sekhukhune finished the 2022/23 season in seventh place with 40 points. This season, they already have 39 points in 25 games, showing significant improvement.
For Seema, a top-eight finish is the ideal target. “So, at the moment we are still trying to fight for top eight, we are not even looking in that mix there at all, we are actually looking below and that is what I can tell you,” expressed Seema.
With just five games remaining in their shorter fixture list (the only team in the league with this situation), Babina Noko now prepares for a tough encounter against TS Galaxy next Wednesday.
