Stellenbosch Confirm Moloisane Departure Amid Pirates Transfer Links

Stellenbosch has confirmed that defender Thabo Moloisane will leave the club when his contract expires in June, ending a decorated three-year stint in the Winelands amid heavy links to newly crowned league champions Orlando Pirates.

The news comes as no surprise, as Moloisane had already made it clear that he would not extend his stay at the club amid links with a move to the newly crowned Betway Premiership champions next season.

Stellies did everything they could to persuade the defender to remain at the club, but Moloisane informed Stellenbosch of his intention to leave upon the expiry of his contract after spending the last three seasons in the Cape Winelands.

“The 27-year-old joined the Maroons from Maritzburg United in 2023 and made 115 appearances across all competitions, helping the team win the Carling Knockout, reach back-to-back MTN8 finals, and qualify twice for the CAF Confederation Cup,” the club said in a statement.

“During his spell with the Maroons, Moloisane emerged as one of the standout defenders in South African football and earned five caps for South Africa national soccer team, while also receiving a nomination for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership Defender of the Season award.

“He departs with the club’s gratitude and appreciation for his leadership and service over the past three seasons.”

It remains to be seen where Moloisane, who is a Mamelodi Sundowns graduate, will move next, with Orlando Pirates among the clubs linked with the defender.
