Stellenbosch Secures Butsaka From Spurs

Stellenbosch FC has successfully acquired the talented midfielder, Chumani Butsaka, from Cape Town Spurs.

The player will have a medical with the club on Monday before Stellies officially confirm him as their latest signing on Monday, Sportswire has been informed.

Previously, Sportswire was informed that Spurs were adopting a tough stance regarding the transfer of their captain Butsaka.

This after Stellenbosch made a R4 million offer for the 22-year-old, but it was rejected by Spurs.

Anonymous sources have accused Spurs of discriminatory practices, alleging that they are tougher on black players compared to their colored counterparts.

“Stellenbosch FC offered R4 million, but Spurs demanded R10 million,” a source said at the time “This is a clear example of the double standards we’ve seen at Spurs for years when it comes to black players.”

While acknowledging Spurs’ desire to retain their best players for a potential Premiership return having been relegated last season; the source argued that Butsaka deserves a move after a decade at the club.

“They want R10 million for Butsaka, it’s unbelievable. This is just because he’s black,” the source claimed.

“His mother had to attend a meeting because she doesn’t speak English well, and the agent was excluded.”

A couple of weeks ago as Stellenbosch were in Durban to play two CAF Confederation Cup first round preliminary matches against Eswatini side Nsingizini Hotspurs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, club coach Steve Barker made it clear they will continue to pursue Butsaka.

This after they lost key players during the off-season such as Deano van Rooyen to Orlando Pirates, Iqraam Rayners to Mamelodi Sundowns, Antonio van Wyk to Austrian side SV Ried, Anicet Oura on loan to Qatari Second Division Muaither SC.

Stellies are forced to step up in signing Butsaka as Jayden Adams is heavily wanted by Sundowns.

Butsaka will become the second player signed by Stellies from Spurs after signing striker Ashley Cupido during this transfer window.

Butsaka will join Omega Mdaka, Brian Onyango, Sanele Barns, and Lehlohonolo Mojela as new signings for Stellies, while Ibraheem Jabaar returned on loan from Maccabi Petah Tikva.
