Timm Leaves Pirates As Contract Expires

Orlando Pirates have confirmed that Miguel Timm will depart the club when his contract with the Soweto Giants expires in June.

Timm, whose one-year deal option was exercised at the end of last season, hardly got any game time this season.

The combative midfielder, who joined Pirates from Marumo Gallants ahead of the 2022/23 season, featured in just three matches across all competitions.

He has been plagued by an ankle injury; the last time he was on the bench for Pirates was in January during a home loss against Stellenbosch. He did not play a single league match for Pirates this season, and his longest appearance on the pitch was 17 minutes in the MTN8 second-leg semi-final against Cape Town City in August.

Timm lost his place to Makhehleni Makhaula, Phillip Ndlondlo, and Thalente Mbatha, who were preferred by both departed coach Jose Riveiro and caretaker coach Mandla Ncikazi.

During Timm’s tenure with Pirates, he won three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups, and was a league runner-up four times. The 33-year-old featured in 60 matches across all competitions, providing one assist but unable to score a goal.

Timm’s departure follows closely on the heels of club captain Innocent Maela, whom Pirates announced on Thursday would also be leaving the club. However, discussions suggest Maela may remain with Pirates in some capacity.
