A Return To His Roots: Chiefs Sign Mayo

Kaizer Chiefs has signed striker Khanyisa Mayo, who is returning to South Africa after one season abroad.
Mayo, a Bafana Bafana international, was deemed surplus to requirements at Algerian club CR Belouizdad, where he had a challenging relationship with coach Sead Ramovic.
Despite his contract running until 2027, the club and player agreed on an early departure.
Chiefs announced the signing with a celebratory statement: “Amakhosi Family, our new signing has a message for you. We are looking forward to welcoming him home soon. We just couldn’t wait to let you know that Khanyisa Mayo is Khosified!!! Welcome Khosi. We look forward to revealing that special jersey number….look out for the reveal coming soon.”
During his single season with Belouizdad, Mayo scored six goals and provided one assist in 41 matches.
A Family Legacy
This move is a return to familiar territory for Mayo, as his father, Patrick Mayo, was also a star player for Chiefs. Patrick Mayo won two league titles with the Soweto Giants, playing both as a center forward and later as a defender.
Chiefs have had a long-standing interest in Mayo, having attempted to sign him before his move to Algeria. Now, they have finally secured their target.
Mayo joins a Chiefs side that has been very active in the transfer market and currently sits second in the league table with 13 points from five matches.
