Ncikazi: “Every Point Is Critical”

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has emphasized the gravity of the current campaign stage as the Buccaneers prepare for a pivotal Betway Premiership clash against AmaZulu.

Pirates host Usuthu at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon, with a clear objective: leapfrog current log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. The Soweto giants currently occupy second place with 55 points after 24 matches. A victory on Saturday would propel them to the summit of the table.

The Title Race Context

While a win would put Pirates in first place, Mamelodi Sundowns maintain a mathematical advantage with two games in hand. The Brazilians are currently diverted by continental duties, facing Esperance in the CAF Champions League on Saturday.

Despite the games in hand for their rivals, Ncikazi stressed that Pirates must maintain a flawless run.

“We are in that stage of the season where every point is important, every match has some significance- all teams are fighting for something,” said Ncikazi.

AmaZulu have yet to register a win at the venue against Pirates, despite having beaten them elsewhere.

Pirates have shown some inconsistency in their last five matches, winning only three games and two draws.

Looking ahead to their clash with Usuthu, who currently sit fourth and are pushing to break into the top three, Ncikazi has acknowledged the challenge that awaits, but insists that it’s a must-win game.

“We just have to win the match, the points are so important to us,” said Ncikazi.

“We will play with pride, represent the badge, and give a performance that will guarantee us a result. Not an easy match, but it has to be one.”

Ncikazi added that every player is ready for the encounter and will perform at their best.

“It’s clear in our team that all the players are ready,” Ncikazi added.

“That is why the club signed so many players. Whoever is not here, the other one will take over. The beauty of it is that all the players are at the same level. Ready to perform and give their best for the team.”
