Bvuma Aims To Stop Chiefs’ Leaky Defence

Kaizer Chiefs have used all three goalkeepers this season under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, highlighting major problems for the Soweto giants club in goals.
In the meantime, Bruce Bvuma has opened up about his lack of game time in Amakhosi at the beginning of the current season.
This is despite Bvuma finishing the 2023/24 season as the first-choice goalkeeper in Amakhosi, his position was under threat at the start of the season after Chiefs signed Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy during the season.
Ntwari played the first seven games for Amakhosi this season, but he conceded nine goals in the procdess.
He was then replaced by Brandon Petersen, who also did not cover himself in glory. He conceded five goals in three matches and his last appearance was a 2-0 loss to Polokwane City at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Coach Nabi then gave a chance to Bvuma in December last year against TS Galaxy in their 1-1 draw, a win over Chippa United and loss to Cape Town City this past weekend.
While Chiefs appear to be struggling in goals, Bvuma sees it different.
“I don’t think there were any issues [as I didn’t start the season], it’s all about competition,” Bvuma said.
“Playing for this team is always about competition because these are the international goalkeepers.
“So, one will get a chance and others will have to wait for their chance, and that’s how the game is.
“This one is not a problem at all, it’s all about competition, and whenever someone gets a chance, we have to support him.”
Bvuma and Amakhosi will host Stellenbosch on Wednesday evening at FNB Stadium in the Betway Premiership match.
The 29-year-old believes that Chiefs can get all three points against the dangerous Steve Barker’s side.
“It shows that our preparations when we play against them have been good,” Bvuma added.
“So, we just need to keep on doing that, we just need to play our game. I think that’s how we managed to give them problems in the past.
“I believe that even now if we go there perform and do our best, we will be able to handle every situation that we’ve been facing.”
Amakhosi will be targeting their first victory of the year when they face Stellies.
