Chiefs On Brink Of Diski Challenge Title After Points Award

Kaizer Chiefs are now just one win away from clinching the DStv Diski Challenge title after being awarded three points due to Chippa United’s failure to honour their fixture in February.

Consequently, Chiefs need only one victory to secure their first-ever DStv Diski Challenge championship. They will celebrate the title if they defeat Tlou Sekgogela’s Magesi at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday morning.

“Chippa United were found guilty of failing to honour the fixture against Kaizer Chiefs on the 1st of February 2025. The match was awarded to Kaizer Chiefs with a 3-0 scoreline,” the PSL stated.

Amakhosi currently sit atop the table with 64 points after 26 matches, holding now a four-point lead over second-placed and defending champions Stellenbosch.

However, even if Chiefs triumph over Magesi, the league title will not be officially handed over until after their final game of the season against AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on 3 May, as per standard procedure.

The league, which has faced numerous challenges this season, also expelled Royal AM after the KwaZulu-Natal-based club was unable to field a team due to a FIFA ban.

The club lacked the required number of players for their first game. The PSL executive committee decided to expel them, resulting in the league finishing with 28 games instead of the initially scheduled 30.

Furthermore, Chippa United has also been penalized for fielding an ineligible player against Marumo Gallants in February, with another three points awarded to the Bloemfontein-based side.

This additional points deduction has pushed Chippa to the bottom of the DStv Diski Challenge standings.

“Chippa United were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player against Marumo Gallants on the 22nd of February 2025. The match was awarded to Marumo Gallants with a 3-0 scoreline,” the PSL confirmed.
