Chiefs Set To Sign Ntwari

TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari is on the verge of joining Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs are looking to bolster their goalkeeping department after a season filled with concerns in that area.

Bruce Bvuma, the preferred starter last season, failed to consistently convince as the number one goalkeeper for the Soweto giants. Brandon Peterson also struggled when given the opportunity, most notably with a costly error in the MTN8 quarter-final against Mamelodi Sundowns last season.

Discussions are still ongoing regarding the future of veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, who Chiefs previously indicated was playing his final season last term. However, Khune remains ambitious to continue playing.

Ntwari, a Rwandan international, joined Galaxy from AS Kigali at the beginning of last season. The 24-year-old impressed, featuring in 32 matches across all competitions. He kept 13 clean sheets and conceded only 29 goals.

Ntwari was in goal for Galaxy’s run to the Carling Knockout final, where they were defeated by Stellenbosch FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in December. This signing marks the second consecutive season that Galaxy has lost a goalkeeper to a Soweto team, following Melusi Buthelezi’s departure to Orlando Pirates at the start of last season, which led to Ntwari’s arrival as a replacement.

Ntwari is expected to join Chiefs at their pre-season training camp in Turkey. Chiefs are undergoing a reboot after a disappointing tenth-place finish in the DStv Premiership table last season, their worst placing in the PSL era. The club has also appointed Nasreddine Nabi as their new coach in hopes of a turnaround next season.
