Former Chiefs Striker Finds New Home In Iran

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana has signed for FC Zobahan in Iran Premier League.

The Burundian international last club was Al Ahli Benghazi who competed in the Libyan Premier League.

He was a free agent since he parted ways with Al Ahli last season without playing a single match at the Libyan club due to a long-term injury. Bimenyimana made history by becoming the first player in the PSL era to score three goals from the penalties in a league match when the Chiefs beat Stellebosch FC 3-1 in October 2022.

The tall striker played 21 matches for the Phefeni Glamour Boys across all competitions and managed to score eight goals in the process. He parted ways with the Soweto Giants after one season. He became the second player from Burundi to play for Kaizer Chiefs.

The first player to join Amakhosi from Burundi is Valery Nahayo, who joined the club in June 2008 from Jomo Cosmos.

Bimenyimana is highly experienced and he has played in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup with his former club Rayon Sport of Rwanda.

He scored three goals in six games in the 2018 edition of the Confederation Cup as Rayon Sport made it to the quarterfinal. The 26-year-old began his football career at Vital’O in Burundi back in 2016, before moving on to Rayon Sports in Rwanda.

He has also played club football in countries such as Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Kazakhstan.
