Mdaka: A Journey Of Gratitude

Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka praised his team’s grit and determination after securing a thrilling 1-0 victory over Morocco in the AFCON U20 final at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday.

The winning goal was scored by 18-year-old Gamoleno Kekana, who unleashed a stunning shot from outside the box, assisted by goalkeeper Fletcher Lowe’s clever distribution.

Mdaka commended his players and technical team for their remarkable journey, which saw them overcome tight margins in the group stages and navigate challenging matches en route to the final.

“Well done to the boys. They’ve done themselves good, but we will always want to thank everybody, the players, the technical team,” Mdaka said.

The victory marked a sweet revenge for Amajita, who lost to Morocco in the 1997 final.

This is also their first AFCON title since 1995, and their second trophy under Mdaka’s guidance, following their COSAFA Championship win last year.

Mdaka highlighted the team’s defensive solidity, saying, “We always stick to what we can do best and ensure that we don’t concede.”

The coach’s tactics paid off, as Amajita successfully contained Morocco’s attacks and secured a hard-fought win.

The victory has set the stage for Amajita’s participation in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile this September. With two titles already under their belt, the team will look to make it three under Mdaka’s guidance.

“Starting from the first games in the group stages, you can even see the margins of the results, it’s 1-0, 1-0 scorelines, but thank God we were able to go through the whole journey until we came to the final, and we ended up winning the final,” Mdaka added.

As Amajita prepares to take on the best teams in the world, Mdaka’s words will serve as a testament to the team’s resilience and determination.

With their sights set on Chile, the team will look to build on their momentum and make a lasting impression on the global stage.
