Mdaka Eyes Revenge Against Morocco In AFCON U20 Final

Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka is determined to lead his team to victory in the AFCON U20 final against Morocco on Sunday at the 30 June Stadium.
The match, scheduled for 20:00, will be a rematch of the 1997 final, where Morocco won 1-0.
Mdaka acknowledged the historical significance of the matchup, saying, “Well, it’s history now because it’s something that happened 28 years ago, it was 1997, and now it’s 2025.”
The former Marumo Gallants mentor believes that the repeat fixture will generate significant interest among fans, who will be wondering if Morocco can repeat their victory or if Amajita will emerge as champions.
“The outcome will be determined on the field of play,” Mdaka said, emphasizing the importance of hard work and dedication.
Amajita’s journey to the final was marked by a hard-fought win against Nigeria in the semifinals, while Morocco secured their spot with a victory over host nation Egypt.
Mdaka highlighted the progress made by South African junior national teams, citing the U17 [Amajimbos] team’s qualification for the World Cup as evidence of their growth.
“We’ve developed now, the U17 has qualified for the World Cup, and we qualified for the World Cup as well,” Mdaka added.
“We are getting there, and I just wish this could give us the energy tomorrow [on Sunday] so that we can write the history that needs to be written.”
As Amajita prepares to face Morocco, Mdaka’s team will look to turn the tables and make their mark on the competition. The final match promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams eager to emerge victorious.
In the lead-up to the final, Egypt and Nigeria will face off in the Third Place Playoff at 17:00 at the same venue.
The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the AFCON U20 tournament, with Amajita and Morocco ready to clash in a battle for continental supremacy.
