Mokoena, Mudau And Williams Part Of Bafana Side
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his final squad for the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo.
The two-legged tie will begin on 11 October at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and conclude four days later at Stade Alphonse Massamba-Débat in Brazzaville.
Broos has largely retained the same squad that drew 2-2 with Uganda and beat 3-2 South Sudan in September, except Sphephelo Sithole and Siyabonga Ngezana, who are out due to injury. Luke Le Roux has been called up as the replacement of Sithole and Ngezana’s place has been taken by Thabiso Sesane of Orlando Pirates.
Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau have also been included in the squad, despite limited playing time with their club Mamelodi Sundowns. Mokoena last featured in the MTN8 semi-final, while Mudau came on as a substitute in Sundowns’ recent victory over Kaizer Chiefs.
Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams is back in the squad after missing the September matches due to an unknown injury. His return is a significant boost for Broos, especially considering how inspirational he is with Sundowns and the national team.
Percy Tau, who was omitted from the September squad, has again been left out of the squad as he is battling for form with Al Ahly, although he played for the Egyptian side in the CAF Super Cup last week.
There is also no place for AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa, who has had the shock of his life in the past weeks, especially with Bafana Bafana’s 2-2 draw with Uganda when the spilled in his hands.
