Nwabali Extends His Deal With Chippa

Chippa United has secured the services of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali on a long-term deal.

The Nigerian international, who had reportedly attracted interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, has signed a new three-year contract.

“We are pleased to announce that Stanley Nwabali has signed an improved three-year contract with Chippa United FC,” said Chippa in a statement.

“We are incredibly proud of Stanley’s dedication and commitment to the club. His leadership on and off the field has been exemplary, and we believe he is the right person to guide our team through the challenges ahead.

“With this been said Stanley will be our new team captain for the upcoming season. We wish Stanely continued success in his career, both in domestic competitions and on the international stage. We look forward to achieving great things together in the seasons to come.”

The 28-year-old has appeared in 38 matches across all competitions since joining Chippa, keeping 12 clean sheets.

Nwabali’s strong performances for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, where they reached the final before losing to Ivory Coast, have likely contributed to his increased interest from other clubs. He played a crucial role in Nigeria’s victory over South Africa in the semifinals, saving a few penalties.

Chippa, led by Kwanele Kopo, will expect Nwabali to be in goal when they kick off the Betway season of 2024/25 with an away match against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on 14 September.
