Palacios Shares Advice On Monyane’s Rumored Chiefs Move

Former Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacios has shared his thoughts on defender Thabiso Monyane following his release from the club and rumored move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Palacios was the last coach to win the Premier Soccer League with Pirates in the 2011/12 season, and he witnessed the growth of this young player during his tenure as coach.

Monyane made his senior debut for Pirates in July 2019; however, due to injuries, which limited his game time, the club decided not to renew his contract.

During his tenure with the Sea Robbers, Monyane won four MTN8 and two Nedbank Cups and is now rumoured to have signed for the Glamour Boys alongside his Pirates teammate, Paseko Mako.

The veteran coach feels like Monyane’s signing with Chiefs is a great opportunity for him, noting that it’s a big club and he’ll experience the same pressure as he did with Pirates.

“If he goes to Kaizer Chiefs, a good opportunity for him, it’s another big club,” said Palacios.

“Remember, he’ll continue with the same pressure he had at Pirates. If he goes to Chiefs, that is nothing new for him about pressure. But he only needs to do this to continue displaying his football and to have ambitions again of going to the Bafana Bafana.

“He needs to display that, and that is very important, he added.

The Peruvian-born coach further advised Monyane on his upcoming football career, having developed him at the club’s juniors. 

“Continue to display his football. Continue being strong. Remember, he’s still 24 or 25 years old, and he must show who he is,  Thabiso Monyane. he is a good player, he was in Bafana Bafana. He must continue showing his football. I think when you’re man enough, you pass football, must continue following while you have,” he said.

“You have the family who you need to support, I was supporting him, I will be forever on his side.”   

Nasreddine Nabi’s side will be expected to travel to the Netherlands along with Monyane for a pre-season camp from July 3 to July 19 to prepare for the 2025/26 campaign.
