PSL EXCO To Decide Royal AM’s Points In Three Days

The PSL Executive Committee will meet on Monday or Tuesday to decide how to handle the points and remaining matches that Royal AM was scheduled to play, Sportswire has learned.

This follows the PSL’s Board of Governors’ overwhelming approval of the PSL EXCO’s recommendation to terminate the membership of the KwaZulu-Natal club on Thursday.

Specifically, on Thursday, the 31 member clubs forming the Board of Governors, present at the Sandton Convention Centre, unanimously voted in favor of the EXCO’s recommendation to terminate Royal AM’s PSL membership with immediate effect.

With the termination confirmed, the PSL EXCO, led by PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza, must now determine how to address the eight points the club accumulated in its 11 matches.

This means all points earned by Royal AM, and those earned by other clubs against them, including log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, will be expunged.

Consequently, the PSL season will conclude with 15 teams, and the 15th-placed team, currently SuperSport United, will enter the relegation/promotion play-offs. All teams will finish the campaign having played 28 matches.

Royal AM nearly finalized a sale to Durban businessman Chockalingam “Roy” Moodley two weeks ago, but the deal collapsed when Moodley’s company, Global Investment, failed to make the payment within the agreed timeframe.

Subsequently, the curator, Jaco Venter, reported a lack of interest in the club’s auction and informed the league, prompting the Board of Governors meeting on Thursday.

Royal AM has not played a match in 2025 after the South African Revenue Service (SARS) seized owner Shauwn Mkhize’s assets.

As a result of the seizure, the PSL suspended all of Royal AM’s fixtures indefinitely. The club was also excluded from the Nedbank Cup Round of 32, with Milford receiving a bye.

SARS, seeking to recover an alleged R40 million in debt from Mkhize, appointed Venter as the club’s curator. With no immediate resolution in sight, SARS initiated proceedings to liquidate or sell the club.

Ultimately, the sale was approved. However, no buyer was found.
