Royal AM’s Membership To Be Terminated By The PSL

Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs have received a circular indicating that Royal AM’s membership is set to be terminated next week.
The PSL, in the circular in possession of Sportswire, has convened a Board of Governors (BOG) meeting at the Sandton Convention Centre for Thursday of next week.
All 32 PSL member clubs will be present, where a definitive decision on Royal AM’s status will be made, given their failure to play a single match in 2025.
Members will be informed that Royal AM’s membership is to be terminated, resulting in the expungement of the eight points they earned from their 11 matches played.
Consequently, the club will be effectively relegated, and the team finishing 15th in the league standings will participate in the PSL relegation and promotion playoffs.
Royal AM was close to being sold to Roy Moodlely last week, but the deal collapsed at the last minute after the Durban businessman, through his company Global Investment, failed to make the payment within the agreed timeframe.
However, the curator, Jaco Venter, is now reporting a lack of interest in the club’s auction and has informed the league, prompting the BOG meeting scheduled for Thursday.
Royal AM has not played a match in 2025 following the South African Revenue Service’s (SARS) seizure of owner Shauwn Mkhize’s assets.
As a result, the PSL suspended all of Royal AM’s fixtures indefinitely. They were also excluded from the Nedbank Cup Round of 32, with Milford receiving a bye.
SARS, seeking to recover an alleged R40 million in debt from Mkhize, appointed Venter as the club’s curator. With no immediate resolution in sight, SARS initiated proceedings to either liquidate or sell the club.
Ultimately, the sale was approved. Unfortunately, no buyer has been found.
