Stellenbosch Take Control Of CAF Tie By Beating Congolese Giants

Stellenbosch capitalized on their home advantage against AS Vita Club in the CAF Confederation Cup, securing a 2-0 victory at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Friday.

Stee Barker’s squad dominated the first half, with Thabo Moloisane opening the scoring in the seventh minute and Bradley Mojela doubling the lead before halftime. The Congolese side, considered one of the continent’s top teams, was unable to mount a significant comeback.

Although Stellenbosch failed to extend their lead in the second half, they were satisfied with their clean sheet heading into the return leg. This victory marked their sixth consecutive win of the season, following their impressive performance in the MTN8 semi-finals against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The second leg of the Confederation Cup match will be played on Sunday next week at Stade des Martyrs de la Pentecôte in Kinshasa. Before then, Stellenbosch will kick off their 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign with a home fixture against Golden Arrows at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday.

The club qualified for the second round of the Confederation Cup by comfortably defeating Nsingizini Hotspurs 8-0 in the first round, with both matches taking place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
