Chiefs Eye Swap Deal For AmaZulu’s Hanamub

Kaizer Chiefs might have signed versatile player Bradley Cross from Golden Arrows, but their interest in Riaan Hanamub from AmaZulu has not waned.

Sportswire has learned that they are considering a swap deal with Usuthu for the Namibian international fullback, who has been impressive since joining the club from Chippa United.

Chiefs are offering Usuthu their midfielder, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, in exchange for the left-back. Mthethwa’s place at Chiefs is not guaranteed following the return of Njabulo Blom from St. Louis City FC.

The signing of Cross has not deterred Chiefs’ interest in Hanamub, as they believe the Namibian international can make an immediate impact and Cross can be used as a left-sided center-back, similar to their former defender Tefu Mashamaite.

Chiefs’ pursuit of Hanamub has been motivated by the injuries sustained by Bongani Sam and Edmilson Dove during the off-season. New coach Nasreddine Nabi has stated that the club is not finished in the transfer market.

“We’re still looking for top-quality players,” Nabi said at the Betway Premiership launch on Tuesday. “It’s difficult because all the clubs want the best players. Kaizer Chiefs have big money, but the clubs need to hold onto their best players.”

“I want high-quality players at Kaizer Chiefs,” Nabi continued. “I won’t accept anything less. If we don’t find the players we want, I won’t sign them. I’m very happy to have Njabulo Blom back. Bradley Cross has personality and quality. We need to use him correctly.”

The PSL transfer window closes on 20 September, giving Chiefs ample time to explore other options. Since joining AmaZulu ahead of the 2022/23 season, Hanamub has been a mainstay at left-back, featuring in 67 matches across all competitions, scoring one goal.

In addition to Cross, Sam and Blom, Chiefs signed Inacio Miguel, Gaston Sirino, Fiacre Ntwari, and Rushwin Dortley.
