City Ditches Former Orlando Pirates Striker

Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed that former Orlando Pirates striker, Thamsanqa Gabuza has failed to make an impression at Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United.

Despite playing in this year’s edition of the KwaZulu Natal Premier’s Cup as part of his assessment, the 37-year-old has failed to secure a spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship side. Gabuza left his former club, TG Galaxy in the middle of the 2023/24 season having only played eight games, with not a single goal contribution in terms of goals and assists.

City chairman, Kadodia confirmed the team’s decision to not sign Gabuza, alluding to lack of fitness being one of the key reasons the player couldn’t clinch a contract despite trialing with the team.

“Right now, I do not think he was at the level that we wanted him, so it is very hard to give a judgement if the guy is not fit,” said Kadodia.

The Durban City boss further asserted his sentiments saying, “So right now there is no Gabuza, no he wasn’t signed.”

Durban City welcomed new player arrivals during this transfer window, with some of their key signings being former Golden Arrows right back, Siyavuya Ndlovu and Leonardo Rooi who comes in on loan from AmaZulu FC.

Despite the disproval of Gabuza, City coach Simo Dladla further confirmed after their 2-1 victory over Casric Stars at Chatsworth Stadium on Friday that the team is still on the look for a player, particularly in the striking position.

“For now I can say the team is balanced but maybe we can identify a player with a different profile in the striking position,” confirmed Dladla.
