Durban City Halted As JDR Stars Close In

Motsepe Foundation Championship log leaders Durban City suffered a setback in their quest for promotion to the Betway Premiership following a 1-0 defeat to Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Friday.
Despite falling short of former Kaizer Chiefs winger Lebohang Lesako’s goal, the KZN-based outfit is still at the top of the table with 31 points accumulated from 16 matches. However, the result saw their six-game unbeaten run come to an end.
Meanwhile, JDR Stars returned to winning ways and moved within touching distance of the title race after claiming a 2-1 win over bottom-placed Leruma United at Giant Stadium on Saturday to take their points tally to 30.
Milford FC snapped their five-game winless streak with a slender 1-0 victory over relegation candidates Venda FC at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday, to dislodge Orbit College in third place as the Northwest club fell short to a 1-0 defeat to Black Leopards a day before.
With back-to-back draws, Baroka FC stretched their unbeaten form to seven games after a 1-1 stalemate against Hungry Lions at Global Stadium to make their return to fifth place with 24 points collected.
In the mid-table, Kruger United’s impressive eight-game invincible form was discontinued in the Capital City at the hands of Pretoria Callies. Moreover, the University of Pretoria dropped down to 10th place after a 2-0 loss to newly promoted Highbury at Gelvandale Stadium.
Desperate to steer away from the drop zone amid a daunting possibility of two successive relegations, Cape Town Spurs blew a two-goal lead to share the spoils with Upington City in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium.
The Urban Warriors remain in 14th place, two points above second from bottom Venda FC, while recently appointed coach Brandon Truter is yet to register a win for City and they have now failed to clinch maximum points in their last 10 encounters.
