Cardoso: We Haven’t Won the League Yet

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has cautioned his team against complacency despite their 3-0 victory over Chippa United at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday.

The Brazilians now sit 12 points clear of second-place Orlando Pirates, who have 52 points with two games in hand.

However, Cardoso emphasized that his team hasn’t won the league yet and needs to focus on their upcoming matches.

“We have a big respect for Stellenbosch because that is always a big match to play against,” Cardoso said, highlighting the importance of their next fixture.

“After that game of Stellenbosch, then we have to face Chippa again… But we need to focus on the next match, trying to win and collect three points if possible.”

Cardoso’s comments underscore the challenging road ahead for Sundowns. A win and a draw in their last three games would secure the league title for the Brazilians.

Their upcoming fixtures include matches against Stellenbosch on Sunday at home, then the following matches will be against Chippa United and Magesi.

Cardoso’s focus remains on the upcoming matches and securing the league title.

“I have a big respect for the competition and for all the teams we are going to face, and I can’t say we’ve finished the job now. But the time to celebrate will come, and for now, we just need to celebrate this victory against Chippa.”

Regarding his striker Peter Shalulile, who was absent from the match against Chippa, Cardoso explained that Shalulile had some personal issues affecting his capacity to play. However, he expects Shalulile to be available soon.

“Peter had a small question that affected him in terms of capacity to play on Tuesday,” Cardoso said.

“But I believe that Peter will be very, very weak in the team or be with us in the team… If he will not be available in the next match, then I’m 100% sure he will be available in the following one.”
