Durban City Unveils Seven New Players

Durban City, a Motsepe Foundation Championship team, has strengthened its squad with seven new players. Three players have joined on loan from AmaZulu: Siyanda Hlangabeza, Olwethu Mzimela, and Senzo Ndlovu.

Victor Bakah, whose signing was previously reported, has also officially joined the Durban-based club, along with Mbuso Mdakane, Mphakamiseni Nene, and Menzi Ndwandwe.

Ndwandwe’s transfer was also previously reported by Sportswire. He joins Durban City in a swap deal with Ntsako Makhubela, who moved to struggling Betway Premiership side Magesi FC.

Ndwandwe spent the first half of the season with Magesi, winning the Carling Knockout title with them in November under coach Clinton Larsen.

Nene’s move marks a return to the club, having played for them when they were known as Maritzburg United. He left in 2016 to join Thanda Royal Zulu, where he won PSL promotion under coach Roger Sikhakhane in the 2016/17 season. Nene has already made one appearance for Durban City.

City, rebranded from Maritzburg United during the off-season, is bolstering its squad to maintain its strong position in the league. Simo Dladla’s team currently leads the Motsepe Foundation Championship table with 31 points from 16 matches, one point ahead of second-placed JDR Stars.

If all necessary paperwork is completed, the new signings could feature in Durban City’s Motsepe Foundation Championship match against Kruger United at Chatsworth Stadium on Friday.
